The Bayfield Home and Garden Tour

The Bayfield Home & Garden Tour provides a stellar reason to spend the day in beautiful Bayfield, the charming historic village on the shore of Lake Huron.

Showcasing a series of eight homes ranging from quaint village cottages to elegant lakefront homes, the tour brings together a collection of unique homes and gardens.

The event takes place Saturday July 4th from 10 a.m. to   4 p.m.   Tickets are $15.00 and available the day of the tour at the Bayfield Town Hall on Clan Gregor Square or by calling either 519-565-5838 or 519-565-5093 in advance. You can take a break to eat in one of Bayfield’s many restaurants or picnic in the park or on the beach.  Proceeds from the Tour will help maintain, restore and upgrade the historic Town Hall.

Bayfield North Watersheds Plan meeting to be held July 23 to unveil draft watershed plan for Bayfield North Watersheds

Committee to unveil draft watershed plan

for Bayfield North Watersheds

A local watershed community has been actively involved since December of 2007 in preparing a plan to protect Lake Huron through positive actions in the area between Bayfield and Goderich. The Bayfield North Watersheds Plan committee is now ready to unveil the draft plan for public review.

The committee is hosting an open house at Bayfield Town Hall on Thursday, July 23, 2009. Information about how your property fits into the watershed plan will be available. You are welcome to attend presentations beginning at 5:30 p.m. or 7:30 p.m.

The committee and the community have prepared the local watershed plan with public input through a series of well-attended public open houses.

This community-led watershed plan is an Environment Canada and Ontario Ministry of the Environment initiative with staff support from the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority (ABCA). The plan, to protect and enhance the area north of Bayfield, will include 1) a characterization of the watersheds for the area between Bayfield and Goderich, and; 2) a section for management options identified by the community.

“It is important to remember that all actions to improve water quality start with the individual,” said Jim Ginn, a committee member. “If people need help developing a property plan, this assistance exists. Once the property plan is developed, we can all work on our projects as time and money allow.”

The local committee has created a series of information features highlighting the work of local residents who are helping to protect and enhance the water quality in the area. The first installment of the ‘People like you, planning for a better lake’ series will be published in July.

For more information on the open house or on the Bayfield North Watersheds Plan phone 519-235-2610 or 1-888-286-2610, and ask to speak to Hope Brock, or e-mail hbrock@abca.on.ca

Green Energy Projects - Your chance for Input

The province is proposing a one-window approvals process and
standardized requirements for renewable energy projects.

The government is seeking the public’s input on approval requirements
for renewable energy projects, including setbacks for wind, solar,
hydro, biogas and biomass projects, which build on and strengthen the
environmental and health protection components of current regulatory
requirements.

Proposed approval requirements for renewable energy projects include
the following:

Wind turbines would not be permitted less than 550 metres from
the nearest dwelling, and this minimum setback would increase with the
number and loudness of turbines. It is also proposed that wind
turbines be set back from roadways and property lines, and there would
be ongoing requirements to monitor and address low-frequency noise and
vibrations.

Natural heritage features, such as significant wetlands or
significant wildlife habitat, would be protected by a setback of 120
metres, with development only being able to move closer where there is
a study demonstrating the ability to mitigate negative impacts.

The province will hold information meetings in six locations across
Ontario in June to get public input. Visit the Ministry of the
Environment’s website for dates and locations. Ontarians can also
comment on the proposals of the Ministry of the Environment and the
Ministry of Natural Resources, which will be posted on the
Environmental Registry until July 24.

QUOTES

"I encourage Ontarians to provide input into the proposed renewable
energy approvals process. It’s our goal to ensure that Ontario has
plenty of sources of green energy that meet human health and
environment standards."

-- John Gerretsen, Minister of the Environment

"The proposed requirements will ensure we continue to uphold rigorous
safety and environmental standards while providing clarity about the
approvals process for renewable energy projects. Developing new
sources of renewable energy has a critical role to play in helping us
reduce the impacts of climate change."

-- Donna Cansfield, Minister of Natural Resources

QUICK FACTS

The new requirements would support implementation of the Green
Energy Act, 2009. It's part of Ontario's plan to create green jobs and
bring economic growth to Ontario, and will help address climate
change.

Renewable sources of energy will help the government meet its
commitment to phase out coal-fired generation by 2014, the single
largest greenhouse gas reduction initiative across Canada. Eliminating
coal-fired generation will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 30
megatonnes.

AN OPEN LETTER TO MR. HARPER]

Dear Mr. Harper,

Please find below my suggestion for fixing
Canada's economy. Instead of giving billions of dollars to banks and car companies, that will squander
the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan:

There are about 20 million people over 50 in the work force. Pay them $1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the following stipulations:

 1) They MUST retire.  Twenty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.

 2) They MUST buy a new Canadian CAR.  Twenty million cars ordered -
 Auto Industry fixed.

 3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing
 Crisis fixed.

 4) They must send their kids to school / college /university - Crime
 rate fixed

 5) Buy $50 of alcohol / tobacco / petrol a week... there's your money
back in duty / tax etc

It can't get any easier than that!

P.S. If more money is needed, have all members of parliament pay back
their falsely claimed expenses and second home allowances.
